this isn't jasper's first bath (my apologies, it happened a few days ago + i was at work at the time). however, as you can see, he wasn't into this bathing ritual.

this is the first time jasper met his godfather, my brother ben.

ben, recently back from Iraq, is deactivating from the marines + was in San Diego to attend training for his new job. we were able to drive down + meet him before he flys back to NC.

flipping through this blog, it occured to me that jasper must seem like the perfect little angel that never cries. well, he is perfect (hah! just kidding!), but he does cry. i think he takes after his aunt jessica in this photo.

mom's warmth

i got out of the shower this morning and found this. luckily, i had my trusty camera ready right next to the bed!

the stub is gone!

My kid is growing up. Last night, around midnight, mara is changing jasper’s diaper in another room and calls for me to come quick. I’m tucked into bed, all nice and warm, so I think to myself: this better be good. I thought: it better not be some slight color hue to his feces or “just look how much pee he did this time.” And as I approached, it was clear to me this was indeed a special moment. Jasper’s bare belly no longer holds the discolored and shriveled umbilical cord stub. It decided to unleash itself to leave behind a beautiful belly button for us to see for the first time.

mara asked me if I wanted to save it. Disgusting I thought. Then, for a second, I wondered if I should take a picture of it for the blog.

i was about to throw this plant to the dumpster, when all of a sudden, this leaf sprouted its head out two days ago. it instantly occured to us how blessed we are with life all around us.

shut eye

mara is still a little new to bloggin and "too busy feeding this munchkin" to post, so she asked me to put this one up that she snapped of jasper and i sharing some z's earlier.

first of many pediatrician visits...

seems that jasper's conjunctivitis has come back in his left eye. he had it a bit of the stuff earlier in the hosiptal, as some babies do, since their developing eye ducts sometimes get clogged up.

at the doctor's office, when the nurse called "jasper jones" to come in and when i picked up the prescrition, it was pretty cool to hear his name from total strangers. even seeing his name on the bottle somehow makes it more real for me.

can you tell this is the first grandchild on my side of the family? (sixth on mara side!) if we're not careful, this kid is going to get spoiled!
