you'll notice in the daylight, jasper typically keeps his right eye closed. this is due to the fact that we give him eye drops which dilate the pupil, forcing it to remain wider open, even in light. hence, he keeps it closed since it must be sensitive.
in many ways, we look at this as a good sign which means light is entering the eye.

doc appointment update
this morning we went to children's hospital to see what the status is on his eye. if you remember, we had a bit of a set back 2 weeks ago when we thought we were going in for the contact lens. the eye was red, irritated, and inflamed so we had to postpone the lens placement and even were told he might have to go under anesthesia for a close examination.
im happy to report we have some progress. the eye is better. the exam under anesthesia was postponed to see if the new eye drops would work. it appears as if they are.
these are my novice understandings: the doc seems to think there is fluid entering the cornea. this is bad as it clouds the transparent cells of the cornea. the cornea is a dehydrated tissue, hence liquid cannot seep in. the cornea has three layers to it. it is unclear whether the scar has penetrated all three layers. we will only know, if the all three layers were damaged, in a few weeks after the new drops fully begin to work. it can take up to 6 weeks for the drops to work.
it's undecided at this point whether jasper will need a cornea transplant. we have another appointment in 2 weeks to register the eye's hopeful improvement. it is very preferable to keep the original cornea. however, it he does get a transplant, they doctor will also insert a "permanent" lens so we wont have to place one in each day. i suppose this is the silver lining if we go this route. every 20 years or so, he will have to replace this lens and possibly the cornea as he grows.
lastly, dr song shared how technology is advancing rapidly. he mentioned how 20 years from now, the procedure will most likely be quite different. i mentioned this article my friend matt sent me. this research is being done at the same hospital this doc also works at. he said that jasper probably wont need this.
