in response to this previous post, this 1987 photo (also the year the Joshua Tree was released) is proof of my brother ben and i's sacrifice for the house's warm fireplace. while my sister jessica organized her barbie doll collection, ben and i toiled in these harsh conditions with nearly frostbit apendages.
also note my brother's walking stick. i remember him being hurt, almost crippled in the tundra of our backyard, but still enduring the harsh conditions to provide the necessary supplies for the house's heat. we were lucky this day. there was only a few inches of snow instead of the normal several feet we had to shovel first just to get to the wood.
