update: a smile! er...sort of
mara snapped this pic today of Jasper giving us his smile. the eye is painful for him occasionally, but he says it itches a great deal which is more uncomfortable than anything. he's mentioned that it feels like there is sand in his eye. The eye is also pretty swollen, but he's able to open it more and more to put in the drops.

A very brave boy indeed! From everything I've ever known about itching, it means healing too! I wish we lived closer because I'm just getting through back surgery recovery. Jasper and I could have been recovery pals! He looks like he's doing more than fine without me though, lol
