both of jasper's costumes were from our dear friends frederike and uli from germany. the lederhosen was a little too nice to get dirty, so jasper was a german soccer player.

dave plunket, aka mr. plunkito + father to rain + finn + husband of our dear friend kim, went to architecture school with mara + i.
mr plunkito + i would stay up into the wee hours working on our projects as we discussed politics, religion, and factoids. nothing has changed. he is a true friend + a kind gentle soul, even though he doesn't believe he has one.
he was in town for an architecture lecture and we had some time to take him to the Getty Villa where upon entering, he suffered a minor flesh wound. luckily, mara has packed her trusty tweasters.

thank you to everyone who has written and called concerned about the fires raging near us. although we have ash raining down + can smell the smoke, the flames are pretty far from us...at least for now. on the other hand, dozens of my clients at shadedbox haven't been so lucky. we've done a great deal of work with a few game companies in san diego where most of them were evacuated or actually lost their house.
it's never a dull moment in southern california.
my hats off to the firefighters who have worked non-stop trying to save as much as they can. true heroes.

Father Niall O'Leary

i feel very fortunate to have Father Niall in my life. as the owner of a kind heart, common sense wisdom, and the sense of humor from someone actually straight from County Cork Ireland, he brings a smile to my face each time i see him. today, he came close to giving away his lemonade to jasper.
a few years ago before jasper, i would attend his james joyce seminars every monday night. these lessons taken from those talks about joyce, who actually despised the Catholic Church, gave me a renewed sense of my faith. Father Niall's genius could only do that for me. i've taken some risks here by showing him without his collar on...as some might label him as a renegade priest...i just call him a great soul.
